Please note that I added post film grain to the intro video of me only, I did not add film grain to the rest of the video clips. The idea was to process the intro video on how I would normally process most of my videos. Think of it as a finished project with all of the setting I learned and applied from these test. I like film grain I don't like dancing (mosquito) noise or macro blocking. Next time you go to the theater look for the noise you will find lots of film grain. I first noticed this on Captain America part 1. Since then I see it all the time in films and really like it.
Also I used the Nikon mount Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 lens with the Metabones Blackmagic Cinema Camera Speedbooster for the intro video of me only. All other clips I used the Panasonic Lumix 20mm f1.7 lens. Don’t judge the Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 lens on sharpness on this video because I don’t think I had a good focus on my face. I will test this lens more in the near future.
After editing this video together and color correcting it and treating the intro video to look more organic, I find that the Gh4 is at least for now a keeper. This sensor is noisy and you have to expose properly and have good lighting to make the noise not noticeable. The second to last test called the “ Stop Difference Test” shows that under exposing -2 stops is where the noise will start to really show up. So by keeping most parts of your scene above -2 stops you should be fine. But I will do a tutorial on how I fix the noise in the GH4 using some post processing tips. Also after rendering to .H264 the dancing (mosquito) noise gets hidden somewhat. Then through Vimeo compression it gets even more hidden and doesn't look to bad. So if your main delivery is internet you shouldn't see to much dancing (mosquito) noise.
The settings im going to be using are the cleanest that I find:
