FILMED & EDITED By Simon Shasha
PRODUCED & EDITED By Michael Shasha
MUSIC: Zack Hemsey - Vengeance (itunes.apple.com/au/album/the-way/id447482308)

TECHNICAL NOTES: Filmed with Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 ART lens + Metabones Canon EF to BMPCC Speed Booster, and Panasonic 12-35mm F2.8 (gimbal shots only). Shot in ProRes HQ in "Film Log" mode. Frame-rate at 60FPS with shutter angle set to 72degrees. Edited in Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015 and graded with Lumetri. Lit entirely by available/natural light only.

Hey guys,

I was lucky enough to be chosen by Blackmagic to test their up-and-coming Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera (BMMCC).

I put together this first video in order to test one of the main features that was missing in (my favourite camera of all time) the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera (BMPCC); high-frame-rates.

I would have been very content if Blackmagic gave us 48FPS in the BMMCC, but they went a little further and gave us 50FPS and 60FPS.

I also wanted to test how the BMMCC played with my CAME-TV Single 3 Axis Gimbal: came-tv.com/camesingle-3-axis-gimbal-camera-32bit-boards-with-encoders-p-673.html

Speaking of which, I found a pretty cool cage also made by CAME-TV that I used with the BMMCC: came-tv.com/cametv-cage-for-blackmagic-micro-cinema-camera-p-721.html

I'll post some pictures I took on my phone below for those interested in seeing the setups I used.

Also, I'd like to say "thank you" to Kristian Lam and Hook from Blackmagic for giving me this opportunity! You guys are legends! Thank you!

Anyway, hope you guys like the video :)

Finding genuine moments of peace and experiencing unaltered natural beauty is increasingly becoming a rarity. Iceland is one of the few places where the worth of nature is understood and embraced. It is truly a magical place and a theatre for the living world.

This is the story of a woman discovering this environment, and attempting to reconnect to her true self in the process.

Written and Directed by Thomas Simon.

Shot handheld on Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera with speedbooster, RAW, 23.976fps.
Lenses used included the Sigma 18-35mm f1.8, Sigma Art 50mm f1.4 and Tokina 11-16mm f2.8.

Mosaic Engineering OLPF for 2.5K BMD Camera | First Quick Footage

I'll likely replace this link with a longer reel of footage, here's a quick look at fine patterns, plaids, and hair.

- 2.5K MFT @ 2.5K RAW
- Canon FD 35 and 50 @ 2~2.8
- Tiffen Black Satin 1 Filter
- Hoya ProND 64 or 32
- Hoya IR CUT

Post:

Very LIGHT Sharpening in the DNG (10.00-15.00, which is default)
Base color, no LUTs

--

When Mosaic gets this filter working with Speedbooster I see no reason to take it out. Perhaps for lowlight shoots where you may want the additional sharpness even at the expense of moire/aliasing, or landscapes. EVen then, for the latter, I wouldn't risk it.

Pocket test coming extremely soon.

Not too long ago, I was contacted by a friend of a friend to make a video application for him. What I captured was a portrait of a man in need. Over the course of a day I saw into this man's soul through my lens and was inspired by his story. Filmed over 1 day and shot on a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera with a Metabones Speedbooster and a Sigma 18-35mm f1.8, Tiffen IR cut, Bower Vari ND.

ABOUT THE FILM
Temple is a concept for a feature film, produced by the same team that made The Akira Project (akira-project.com), a crowd-sourced, live-action trailer based on the manga AKIRA, released in May 2014. It garnered over 3.5 million views online and received wide media coverage by Wired, The Creators Project, /Film, Mashable, amongst many others. The director, Nguyen-Anh Nguyen, is developing TEMPLE as his first long form project, basing himself on everything he loves; dystopian sci-fi, cyborgs and martial arts with a touch of manga thrown in for good measure. Supported again by a talented global production crew, we recently shot a short film in early 2015 which we are developing into a full length feature.

The amazing filmmaking of Nguyen-Anh Nguyen

Filmed at the IBC Amsterdam SuperMeet, Sept. 13, 2015

This is the amazing story of filmmaker Nguyen-Anh Nguyen, who began his professional life as a dentist - and then decided that filmmaking is his passion and to follow this direction in life.

Working with Blackmagic URSA, the Blackmagic Production Camera 4K and DaVinci Resolve, the results look like something straight out of Hollywood.

If anyone doubts what the Blackmagic Cameras and DaVinci Resolve are capable of, then they need to watch this presentation.

This is particularly exciting to see, as the 4.6K sensor from Blackmagic will soon be available in URSA and URSA Mini. Therefore the filmed results from the Blackmagic cameras will only get better with the latest technology coming from Blackmagic Design.

Part 2 of the above presentation, which will show off DaVinci Resolve 12 and the new editing features, to be online next week.

Blood & Oil

$

Blood & Oil is a short film I have wanted to shoot for some time. It speaks to all avenues of passionate endeavors and the common thread of desire, determination and relentless pursuit it takes to see them through. That feeling that wakes you in the dead of night, the call to action that courses through your veins. It doesn't matter what you do or what your passion is, there is always room to be challenged, to grow, advance and to be more inspired.

With that heart and intention, Blood & Oil is about wanting to create, be more awake and to be more alive. I have been lucky enough to both work and play with truly ambitious and talented people that push me more everyday, to those people I say a very special thank you.

And I thank you for watching and to those who share this film. It was a very ambitious shooting schedule, we shot 16+ set ups in 9 locations in 3 days, not including the pick up/spontaneous shoot days. A behind the scenes blog is being posted on my website, with extra photos and extra footage!

"The last of the embers cool in the waking dawn
as the silence echoes through the empty roads
and the beat of heavy hearts stir the morning air
The wasteland smiles, a grin tired and stretched too thin

Built on rotting soil the city starts to crack, the foundations perish and crumble
Trapped and left wanting, the weary stay hidden behind heavy doors and rusted locks
The undeserving cling to chances untaken
There is no escape

The darkness starts to build
I welcome the storm with my fists clenched, the aching seething from my bones
I cannot show you. I cannot take you with me
The course is already written
Moving in harmony, tracers strangle out the light
The consumption of every movement greedy and unsatisfied
From the wreckage the oil runs
Turning the blood of the fallen thick and black

Quiet is the pulse of the driven
Freedom is not levity, but the untold fight of the knowing
A force understood only by those who possess it
Dare to look up
Dare to breathe

To trust the hopeful and stack your spine

No need to call to the willing, they are already at your side
No need to call them brothers, they already share your fire
The crushing allure of pure acceleration
Chase it down
Chase it down"

Paul Thomas Anderson: From a Distance

The characters in the films of Paul Thomas Anderson share many similarities. They come from dysfunctional families, they are desperately seeking acceptance, they let their emotions get the best of them, and the list goes on. But a similarity that seems to especially stand out is a sense of isolation. Anderson's characters are adrift, looking for someone or something to connect with in their lonely worlds. This idea is expressed visually through the use of long/extreme long shots. We are often presented with characters lost within the frame, and therefore have trouble connecting with said characters--we become isolated ourselves. Here is a look at Anderson's use of the long/extreme long shot throughout his first six feature films.
